It is September 1939, and non-violent German expansion and 6 years of Nazi Rule have turned Hitler's Germany into a vast sprawling bulk in central Europe. However, Hitler has set his sights on Poland, and Allied policies of appeasement have been thrown onto the fire- if Poland is invaded, Europe will erupt into war on an unprecedented scale. Little did the Western Allies know that, not only had the Molotov-Ribbentrop mutual assurance pact of earlier that year guaranteed temporary peace between Greater Germany and the Soviet Union, it had also contained a secret clause detailing the partitioning of Poland between the two powers. Hitler is intent on war, and as his mighty blitzkreig is unleashed on the unprepared and outflanked forces of the Polish Army, together with Soviet spearheads from the East, an important democratic country dissapears from the map of Europe.
Although they may have been Comrades throughout the joint invasion of Poland, the shaky relationship between Germany and Russia soon deteriorates, as Hitler, having failed in his attempted destruction of Britain in the West, turns his sights to 'lebensraum' on the vast plains of Russia, overturning the flimsy non-aggression pact, the services of which he no longer requires. Will the sweeping Axis blitzkreig once again be unstoppable, as previously in Poland, France and the Low Countries, leading Operation 'Barbarossa' to become the defining moment in the early history of the Third Reich in its thousand Year reign, or will Stalin's paranoia lead him to make adequate preparations, or perhaps even positive steps, towards war in the East, eventually enabling him to overcome the Greater German Wehrmacht and begin a campaign of conquest and 'liberation' leading to the very destruction of Nazi Germany, his great ideological enemy, and the westwards extension of the Soviet sphere of influence? Playable: Axis, USSR, Latvia, Lithuania, Jugoslavia, Denmark. Recommended: Axis or USSR.
