^It is nearing the end of the Third Age: 3018 by Gondor reckoning, 1418 by Hobbit
reckoning. The Great Years have begun. Sauron has slowly been gathering
overwhelming forces and now he is ready to dominate Middle Earth. His forces
are everywhere and practically no city is safe. His nearly indestructable Nazgul
(Ringwraiths) have been seen again for the first time in many years. Furthermore,
Mordor is allied with Harad in the South and Rhun in the East. The key to power is
the One Ring Sauron is so desperately looking for. In this version of the Lord of
the Rings, you will play Saruman. You are fed up with the unwise consul and actions
of Gondor, and have decided to take the Ring and seize power yourself. Unfortunately
for you, your power base is very small, mostly just the city of Isengard. Can you
conquer both Gondor and Mordor from this unpromising beginning? You only have until
Sept. 1421, when the Third Age comes to an end.
^
^NOTES: Choose Isengard as the human player. It is also possible to play as Rohan or
the Elves with this version (though you can't do much with those civs), but if you want
to be Gondor please play the Lordring.scn instead.
^This scenario is very complicated, so you will need to read the file read1st.txt
before playing.
