Hello everybody. I'm late but fortunately I'm back. I know, I know you were desperate waiting for a new column to bring light to your dark and sad lifes... OK, you weren't but let me believe it. The trouble writing this column is that a lot of events take place between two columns and we always have a lot of things to tell. |
| First of all, we'll take a bit about my favourite topic: the everlasting Civilization II. It's incredible such an old game (more than 7 years old) still has a fanatic community as big and active as ours. With any remarkable exceptions, old scenario creators are going into retire. But new and young blood has come to take their place creating even better (if possible) scenarios. Curt Sibling and Jim Panse are perfect examples; but this happens in the spanish community too. | |
| Our old creators who promised new scenarios have deceived us. Javier Arriaga is supposed to have been working in three scenarios that maybe he'll never end. Pco had his "Classical World" almost over, but he disappeared. Jesús Muńoz (kIndal) and Juan Gonzalez (Fiera) are missing and Jesús Balsinde is definitively retired... but we've received new blood too. Academia has already released two scenarios and his "South American Crisis" for multiplayer is being tested through a PBEM; people, that scenario looks great. Alfonso Sánchez has created two scenarios and is creating a third. Pablostuka has just published his Spanish Civil War scenario and he's already working in an alternate history scenario about WW2 where the republicans won the Spanish Civil War and they entered the war at the allied side. And El León created a scenario about the first Mexican Independence War against Spain (they lost that time) any months ago. It seems we're going to have Civilization II scenarios for a really long time. | |
| Regarding Civ3, the most important new is the upcoming Civ3 new expansion pack: Civilization III Conquests. Atari (didn't I tell you that Infogrames changed its name to Atari in a pathetic try to clean their public image? Well, that's what they just did; they bought the name Atari some time ago and thought we'd enjoy the change) promises us eight new civilizations, new government types, new wonders, city improvements and units and an improved editor. I hope the "improved editor" finally allows us to build scenarios like Civ2... well, I pray for that but I really don't hope it. Our dear friend Master Zen, major poster at our forum, is one of the betatesters... we torture him but he doesn't tell a thing; don't worry, people, he will talk (otherwise we're going to have to kill him). Atari has announced that it will be worldwide released on november 28th... we'll see. | |
| But maybe I'm going too far when I say we can't create scenarios on Civ3. Our friend Planseldon has created a fantastic version of the Rome scenario that came with the original Civ2. It has no events and is not very "customized", but it's a great job anyway (and you can have lots of fun playing it). You can find it in his website. | |
